OVERVIEW- One of Hinduism seven sacred cities, Ujjain boasts a wealth of cultural heritage, largely in the form of temples. Situated on the banks of the Shipra River, the city dates back to 600 BC and was once the residence of Ashoka. It was also the political and commercial hub of central India and the capital of the ancient Avanti Kingdom. Ujjain's spiritual charm is undeniable. The famous poet, Kalidas, described it as the town fallen from Heaven to bring Heaven to Earth. The many temples give you glimpses of a glorious past.

BHOPAL- The capital city of Madhya Pradesh presents a versatile profile, combining a picturesque silhouette of the city, with its historical monuments, mosques and temples and palaces along with the historicity, scenic grandeur and modern planning. Bhopal is a mesh of Old and New. The old city is where one of India's highest Muslim concentration lives. New city overlooks Old Bhopal and is bustled with tourists and locals.

UJJAIN- It is one of the greatest cities and among the seven sacred cities of Hindus in India. It is abode with one of the twelve shrines of Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva. It was earlier called Avantika, but after King Shiva defeated Demon King of Tripuri, he renamed it to Ujjainyini (One who conquers with pride). Ujjain is the proud possessor of a very glorious history. Kumbh Mela is held here once in twelve years. Ujjain is also known for industry and crafts.

DAY 1: BHOPAL - UJJAIN

Welcome at Bhopal Airport/Railway Station and drive to drive to Ujjain. Transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, visit

BHARTRIHARI CAVES- Ujjain is associated with King Vikramaditya. It is believed that Vikramditya's step brother, Bhartrihari chose to renounce his worldly life and belongings and live in exile. The Bhartrihari caves are believed to be the place where he meditated and lived for the rest of his life. It is also possible that these caves are where he wrote his famous works - Shringarshataka, Vairagyashataka, and Nitishataka.

DAY 2: UJJAIN

After breakfast, visit the ancient city of Ujjain

SHREE MAHAKALESWAR MANDIR- Popular as one of the twelve jyotirlingas of Shiva, Shree Mahakaleshwar temple is a popular pilgrim destination in the ancient city of Ujjain. It is built in five levels including an underground level. The temple has spacious courtyards. The shrine of Lord Shiva in the temple is believed to have formed on its own. The walls are decorated with inscriptions, sculptures and motifs.

BADE GANESHJI KA MANDIR- Located close to the Mahakaleshwar temple, the Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir (Big Ganesha's temple) is popular tourist attraction in the holy city of Ujjain. It is famous for the huge, artistic Ganesha idol it houses from which it derives its name. It is also a renowned center for teaching astrology and the ancient language of Sanskrit. It follows the ancient Vedic tradition in which houses of prayers were also teaching centers. 

CHINTAMAN GANESH TEMPLE- A popular tourist attraction in and one of the renowned Ganesha temples in the country, the Chintaman Ganesh mandir is located across the Kshipra river, around 8 km from Ujjain in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The name chintaman translates to reliever of stress (one of the terms associated with Ganesha) and the temple is therefore visited by a large number of believers. 

KAL BHAIRAV TEMPLE- Popular with Shiva devotees, the Kal Bhairava temple is located on the bans of the river Kshipra. It is believed to have been built by King Bhadrasen centuries ago. Two main sects of Shiva worshipers Kapalika and Aghora worship the Kal Bhairava. It is considered the chief among the eight bhairavas of Saivite tradition. Ujjain was historically renowned as a notable center of worship for these two sects. It is now a place for worship for all devotees.

RAM GHAT- Extremely popular as the venue of the famous Kumbh Mela, Ram Ghat is one of the biggest pilgrim places in India. It is where millions of pilgrims gather during the event. The aarti here is renowned and the ghat is known to be the oldest bathing ghat in Ujjain, almost as old as the Kumbh Mela itself.

KALIADEH PALACE- An ancient site in the city, the Kaliadeh Palace is a delight for history buffs. The site is still sometimes referred to as Surya mandir. It is believed that there was a Sun temple at the site where this palace stands. In one of the old Indian texts called the skanda purana, there is mention of the Sun temple and two tanks around it.

DAY 3: UJJAIN - BHOPAL

Day free for leisure and later, depart to Bhopal to catch your flight/train towards onward destination.
