OVERVIEW- Jorhat is the second major city in Assam after Guwahati and acts as a gateway to upper Assam and Nagaland. Famous for its culture, mosques, tombs, gardens and most importantly - its tea plantations, Jorhat is also known as the tea capital of India. The beautiful, commercial, cultural and artistic city of Jorhat takes shape of a tourist attraction given its simple natural charm.  Tea plantation is the main agricultural activity of the city as there are 135 tea gardens in Jorhat. Jorhat's rich culture and heritage combined with the numerous places to see makes it a major tourist attraction. Not only does it make the city one of the largest producers of tea but tea plantations have been part and parcel of the history of Jorhat.

JORHAT- Nestling on the northeastern part of Assam and along a tributary of River Brahmaputra, Jorhat is an important agricultural town for Assam. It is famous for its vast lying tea gardens and is also called the 'Tea capital of the world'. Since the time of British rule, Jorhat has been the main center for tea cultivation. Jorhat is the second major city in Assam after Guwahati and acts as a gateway to upper Assam and Nagaland.

DAY 1: JORHAT

Welcome at Jorhat Airport. Transfer to the hotel. Later visit Tea Gardens.

TEA GARDENS- The gardens of tea are spread over the foothills of North East Himalayas. One can visualize the diligent workers puck the fresh leaves. For a better experience, you can try your hand with them. Learn tea processing at the gardens. Take a leisurely walk to villages nearby. Experience the simplicity of Assamese lives. The simple homes have hardworking affable people. Opening up their homes and hearts, interact with the folks. 

Evening at leisure or you can go for a leisure walk around the place.

DAY 2: JORHAT

After breakfast visit the Tea Capital of Assam- Jorhat

RAJA MAIDAM- Located North of Jorhat, the beautiful Raja Maidam is a vault that preserves ashes of the erstwhile King Purandar Sinha. This maidam was constructed after his death, on 1st October 1894. It is now a pretty park.

HOOLONGAPAR GIBBON WILDLIFE SANCTAURY- Located around 20 km from the main town, this isolated wildlife sanctuary is famous for its hoolock gibbon population. Surrounded by the Brahmaputra river on one side and with tea gardens everywhere else, this is a good enclosure for the 40 or so species of hoolock gibbons that reside here.

NIMATI GHAT- One of the most important ports of the state, the Nimati ghat serves as a link for ferry boats that operate from the river port to the Majuli Island, Kamalabari and Auniati.

DHEKIAKHOWA BOR NAMGHAR- Established by the saint and reformer Madhabdev in the year 1461, this is a famous Assamese temple. The saint reformer started this centre for preaching Vaishnavism.

SUKAPHA SAMANNAY KSHETRA- Sukapha Samannay Kshetra was constructed in the memory of Sukapha, the first Ahom king of Assam. An excavation is undergoing here hoping to find remains of the Ahom Kingdom.

Day free for leisure and later depart at airport/station to catch your flight/train towards onward destination.
