Merging brilliantly with the golden hues of the desert, Jaisalmer fort is one monument cum princely bastion that has always been the pride of the city. Owing to the yellow impression  of the walls, the fort is also known as the Golden Fort or Sonar Quila.  A world heritage site, Jaisalmer fort was built in the 12th century by Raja Jaiswal. Quite like the Taj Mahal of Agra, this marvelous fort looks absolutely stunning by nightfall. Etched in yellow sandstone, the citadel boasts of various attractions that reflect the majestical life of which the fort was once a part of.

Perched atop Tirkuta hills, the  fort houses prominent structures like the Raj Mahal, which had been the royal palace of the  fort, aesthetic Jain temples, Laxminath temple and four massive gateways. Apart from these, Jaisalmer fort is also famed  for its carved yellow sandstone merchant Havelis, which are still in possession of the original builders.

Nearby Attractions of Jaisalmer Fort- Other than the majestic Jaisalmer fort, one can visit Bada Bagh, Patwon-Ki-Haveli, Thar Heritage Museum, Silk Route Art Gallery, Desert Nation Park and the very beautiful Gadisar lake. Besides attractions in the city, tourists can also embark a desert safari to the Sam Sand Dunes, just outside Jaisalmer.
